Merkts Homemade Smash Burgers

Merkts Homemade Smash Burgers are an easy and delicious twist on a classic favorite. These burgers feature two thin, crispy patties cooked to perfection on a hot griddle, then layered with melted Merkts Sharp Cheddar cheese. Served on a soft brioche bun, each burger is topped with fresh lettuce, juicy tomato, crisp onion, and tangy pickles. A generous drizzle of our easy-to-make smash burger sauce adds the final touch, creating a mouthwatering combination of flavors and textures in every bite.

Merkts Homemade Smash Burgers
  • yield: 4 burgers
  • serving Size: 1 burger
  • cook Time: 30 minutes

How to Make It

  1. Form the beef patties: Divide the beef into 8 even portions, approximately 3 ounces each. Gently shape them into balls, then cover and refrigerate while preparing the remaining ingredients. It is important for the meat to be cold when it is placed on the grill.
  2. Prepare the toppings and buns: Finely shred the lettuce. Slice the tomatoes, onions, and pickles. Butter and toast the buns over medium heat until they are golden on the buttered side.
  3. Cook the patties: Increase the griddle to medium-high heat. Place 2-4 burger balls onto the hot griddle. Working quickly, place parchment paper over the meat and firmly press down to create a thin patty.
  4. Once the patties are flattened, remove and discard the parchment paper, then season the patties with salt and pepper. Add 1/2 teaspoon of burger sauce. Cook for 2 minutes on the first side or until seared and juices start to come to the surface. Use a spatula to scrape under the burger at a 45˚ angle to flip it. Cook for an additional 1 minute.
  5. Top half of the patties with 1 tablespoon of Merkts (and cheddar cheese for an extra cheesy recipe) and cover the cheese with the second patty. Repeat with the remaining burgers and transfer them to a platter as they finish cooking.
  6. Assemble the burgers: Place sauce on the bottom of the bun. Top with shredded lettuce, 2 tomato slices. Add the double patty and then the 3 pickle slices, and thinly sliced onion. Finaly top with the bun.
  7. Serve with fries (and melted Merkts on top of the fries for an extra cheesy meal)
